The Vegetarian Butcher powers plant based Rebel Whopper® at Burger King
Today, Burger King® is announcing that the Rebel Whopper® has arrived in restaurants across the UK. The Home of the Whopper® is hopping on the plant-based bandwagon with flexitarians now given the choice to go the meat-free way, with all of the signature Whopper® goodness.
The indulgent Rebel Whopper® consists of a juicy flame-grilled, 100% plant-based patty. All the treat, with none of the meat.
Katie Evans, Marketing Director of Burger King said, “Although we’re arguably late to the plant-based party, this really is a game changer. We’ve been working on this product for a while, it was important we perfected the taste to be virtually indistinguishable from the signature Whopper flavour® and we’ve done it, so we’re incredibly excited to bring the Rebel to the UK.”
The patty, powered by The Vegetarian Butcher, is cooked using the same-style broiler as meat products to create the signature flame-grilled flavour. So, whilst the patty itself is completely plant-based and made from sustainable soy, the Rebel Whopper® is neither strictly vegetarian nor vegan.
Hazel Detsiny, VP Marketing Foods & Tea, Unilever UK & Ireland said, “We believe that plant-based foods taste just as good as meat-based foods – and the Rebel Whopper is a bold and juicy product that is perfect for meat lovers who want to cut down on meat, without compromising on taste.
At The Vegetarian Butcher we offer delicious plant-base alternatives to popular meat dishes including beef, pork, chicken and fish. Powering the Rebel Whopper is a fantastic step towards our goal to become the biggest butcher in the world.”
Toni Vernelli, International Head of Communications and Marketing at Veganuary, said of the Rebel Whopper®:
“For all of the important issues that Veganuary - and most vegans - are trying to address through their food choices it makes absolutely no difference whether the plant-based patty is cooked separately or on the same grill as the meat.
What does make a big difference to animals and the planet is when meat lovers choose a plant-based menu option, enjoy it and then order it again. And that’s exactly who Burger King’s plant-based burger is aimed at, non-vegans who want to reduce their meat consumption for health or environmental reasons, or are considering going vegan.”
Flexitarians around the UK, rest assured – the Rebel is here.
