Unilever employee wins apprentice of the year award
Unilever apprentice Sam Roberts has been named the UK food and drink industry’s Apprentice of the Year at this year’s prestigious Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Community Partnership Awards.
The awards reward businesses throughout the food chain for being both successful and for making a positive difference.
Sam, who works at Unilever’s Trafford Park manufacturing site, is a fourth year apprentice engineer working on the production of tea brands PG tips and Lyon’s. He works with the production engineering team and is responsible for keeping the lines which make pyramid tea bags running, as well as resolving any breakdown issues.
Sam was selected by the judges for his exemplary work ethic and his dedication to his role, seeking out every opportunity to learn and better himself and putting his new skills and fresh ideas to good use at Unilever. Sam’s hunger for knowledge and his determination to excel at his job means that he frequently goes above and beyond to learn more and to develop himself.
FDF Director of Communications, Terry Jones said, “Our employees and apprentices are the lifeblood of our businesses and fundamental to our growth. Our industry recognises that to achieve our potential, we need young people, such as the apprentices celebrated at the awards, to take us forward and to inspire the next generation of industry employees that we need to stay ahead of the game.
“This year’s winning apprentices are an inspiration to us all and remind us how important it is to nurture all our employees’ talents and to support the next generation of industry leaders and stars.”
