Alex, Research & Development apprentice
I am an analytical chemist apprentice, training to perform robust chemical analysis on Unilever products to ensure the safety of the consumer, manufacturer and environment. I work with experts in their respective fields, who are always willing to help me understand new concepts, be it a complex analytical method or just how our supply chain works! I study by day release at University for a BSc in Chemistry.
Unilever is a great work place and top employer to work for. The people are always eager to help me learn and the company itself is driving positive change, and I wanted to be a part of that. Unilever is committed to making a difference whilst simultaneously growing as a business. This mentality means I enjoy coming to work every day.
Outside my day to day role I work to bring science to schools as a STEM ambassador. I work with other apprentice providers to improve Unilever’s own scheme and I work to promote apprenticeships, both at Unilever and in general.
I didn’t look into many apprenticeships before I started mine. I think most people severely underestimate the range of apprenticeships out there, from accounting to zoology! I have gained the basic skills needed to kick start my career.
