Learning to relax
Flora recognises that unhealthy eating can have a severe effect on your body. That's why we offer consumers heart healthy spreads, milk, yoghurt-drinks and other products, designed to lower blood cholesterol.
Another health hot spot is stress, which studies have shown raises blood pressure and is a factor in cardio-vascular disease.
Learning to relax will not only help you enjoy life more, but will be better for your health in the long run.
Lowering your stress levels can also improve the effectiveness of your immune system and reduce your long-term risk of developing heart disease.
Quick relaxation
Take just five minutes of your time to relax as much as you can. You need to sit in a comfortable chair to do this properly:
- Breathe in and out slowly and deeply. This can really help the relaxation process. Try shaking and loosening your arms and shoulders
- Let your jaw go slack and your face muscles relax
- Try to relax your back and stomach muscles
- Wiggle your feet and relax your legs
This simple process can get rid of excess tension and help you to return to your daily activities with more energy.
Relax your mind
Your mind needs a rest too! It can be difficult to relax your body while your mind is whirling round, thinking stressful thoughts. After relaxing physically for a few minutes, try to stop your thoughts returning to the worries of the day and clear your mind – at least for a short time.
Imagine being in a favourite quiet place, such as a beach or garden. Imagine what the place looks like, how it smells and feels. What sounds can you hear? Focus on the full experience of being in this other place away from the stress and strain of life.
Take time out to unwind
Why not...?
- Make sure you actually take a lunch break
- Take a break in the morning or afternoon if you can
- Go for a short walk to get rid of the tension of the day
- Listen to some relaxing music
- Read a book or magazine
- Have a hot bath when you come home from work
