Sustainable Living: mainstream or pipedream?
14/11/11: How can consumers be inspired to turn positive intentions into action?
Sustainable Living: mainstream or pipedream?
The question of how to drive sustainability into the heart of society is one of the most important of our time. As of yet, no one has arrived at an answer and whilst the majority of people express concern over climate change, few are incentivised to act.
What can we do to bridge this gap and inspire a positive change to our culture and habits? Unilever has teamed up with The Guardian to host a debate on these issues. The debate is on Tuesday 22nd November at 14:00 GMT and will be streamed live on Guardian Sustainable Business. The event will see an international panel of experts come together to discuss how companies, brands and people can help motivate the mainstream.
On the panel are:
Malini Mehra, Founder and CEO of the Centre for Social Markets, India
David Jones, Global CEO, Havas, and Co-Founder, One Young World
Tensie Whelan, Executive Director, Rainforest Alliance
Paul Polman, CEO, Unilever
The discussion will be moderated by environmentalist and broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby. Here's how you can get involved:
register your interest and we'll send you a reminder when the debate is about to start
pose a question for the panel in advance or during the live debate
tweet us @GuardianSustBiz or use #Sustliving to follow the discussion
What do you think should be done to mainstream sustainability? Whose responsibility is it and what role does business have? Make sure that the panel hear your thoughts and request a reminder so that you don't miss this crucial debate.
